Sounds both fresh and as if they’ve been in your head forever…McMorrow’s debut deserves its success
Q, ****
Dublin’s James Vincent McMorrow released his debut album, ‘Early In The Morning’, in March 2010. Having begun his career drumming in hardcore bands, James dropped out of college and took up a job pushing trolleys at an airport. ‘Early In The Morning’, which was written and self-produced in an isolated house by the Irish Sea, has since enjoyed extensive, slow-burning success: a cover of Steve Winwood’s ‘Higher Love’ was picked up by Lovefilm, and charted Top 20, whilst James has also been nominated for the Choice Music Prize (the Irish Mercury), and sold out an impressive array of London venues (Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, the ICA, St Pancras Church). Work on Album 2 is underway, and we’re looking forward to it quite a bit.
